“Food has always been a big passion of mine. I absolutely love bringing people together over a meal.”

Arica is the Owner and Chef at Yummy Fixins.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Arica Davis!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?
Food has always been a big passion of mine; I absolutely love bringing people together over a meal. I started my personal chef business in 2014 with just an idea and a website. Since then, my business has grown significantly and continues to grow every year. I have cooked for groups varying in size from 2 people to 165 people and love every minute of it! From weddings and anniversaries, to family reunions and bachelorette parties, I stay quite busy feeding people all around the lake who’ve come to visit from all over the world.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

As of January 2021, I am officially an employer. I now have an amazing team of sous chefs and servers that help keep my business growing and my clients happy. I love being able to employ some amazing locals and help keep their schedules busy year round!

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you try to live by?

Life is too short to be anything but happy!

Who is your role model?

My father is my biggest role model. I grew up working in the restaurant he managed. I did everything from bussing tables and running the cash register, to peeling shrimp. His work ethic and professionalism has made me who I am today. He’s 80 years old and still working full time.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

The quality of life that Lake Tahoe provides is the reason I choose to live here and start my career. Everyone in this town seems to be on the same page when it comes to making the best out of life and enjoying what this amazing mountain town has to offer. I also love the small town feel that reminds me of home in Louisiana. It is such a tight knit community that I’m so happy to be a part of!

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

I wish I had more time to participate in community groups, but as a small business owner I don’t have much free time! I do, however, donate a pasta making class to the Vagina Monologues fundraiser, which helps benefit the Family Resource Center Mother’s Support Group, South Lake Tahoe Women’s Center Emergency Services, Tahoe Youth & Family Services Little Latinas Program and CASA – Court Appointed Special Advocate.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Mountain biking!! I love skiing too, but my most favorite thing to do in Tahoe outside of work is riding my bike. I feel lucky to live so close to some of the most amazing mountain bike trails around!

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

Any free time I have I usually spend it outside on Corral trail or anywhere along the Truckee river with my pups. I also love The Bar Studio for a good workout, pizza and live music at Aleworx, a tasty beer with a Ruben at the Flight Deck, and sunsets at the Bistro at Edgewood.
