“There is a strong food and beverage movement in the area and I am happy to be a part of it.”

As the Bistro Restaurant Manager at Edgewood Tahoe, Cari Schmitt, oversees the restaurant’s operations, as well as numerous other food and beverage services for the Forbes 4-star resort. Cari is also extremely active as an Ambassador for the Tahoe Chamber, and volunteers at various community organizations once a month with her daughter.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Cari Schmitt!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

When Edgewood Tahoe planned to open a year round resort I knew that I wanted to work there. I applied for the Bistro Restaurant Manager position and began my career at Edgewood in April 2017. Over the next few years my responsibilities have now included the In – Room Dining service for the property, the Coffee Bar and the Pool & Beach summer concessions. We have recently received a Forbes 4-star acknowledgement for the property. The Bistro Restaurant has quickly become a popular place for locals and visitors seeking to dine on the patio or inside within our open air kitchen concept and modern architecture.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Receiving the Forbes 4-star recognition for the property. The 4 departments that I do over see where all rated individually.

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you live by?

“Always be learning.”

Who is your role model?

My mother and sister.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

South Lake Tahoe has such an incredible community. There is an active community vibe to love and appreciate our surroundings. I am happy to raise my daughter in this community, so she learns the importance of community involvement for our surroundings. We love to hike and explore each summer, we love to ski in the winter. As for my career in South Lake, there is a strong food and beverage movement in the area and I am happy to be a part of it. We are a travel destination for world travelers and to be able to push for higher service standards and quality experiences is what I am excited to see in our community.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

I am active with the Tahoe Chamber Ambassador program. I also make a point to do at least one philanthropic activity a month with my daughter among volunteer groups or community groups around the lake.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Camping and Hiking in the summer-time with my daughter. We also like going to the beach.

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

I enjoy the Heavenly Village area for great socialization and events in the summer. I enjoy hiking all the trails (my favorite is to Winnemucca and Round Top Lake) around the South Shore and camping at D.L Bliss. Spending some time at Nevada Beach with friends.
