“I couldn’t be more proud of the branded short my team created for Lionsgate Studios to promote the film Wonder, which won a 2018 Digiday Award.”

Kate is co-founder and Head of Production at KR Squared Production which has won accolades for work created for Disney, Lionsgate, and more.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Kate Rhamey!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

As Head of Production, I oversee the creative and strategic minutia of every project. Then when it comes to accomplishments; well, I couldn’t be more proud of the branded short my team created for Lionsgate Studios to promote the film Wonder, which won a 2018 Digiday Award. In addition, My production partner and I won a Tongie (Best Production Company) for our work with the CW Network, and I was honored as a Hollywood Foreign Press Fellow. As for commercials, I’m really proud, of the Christmas Commercial I directed for Disney. It featured, cute kids, a clever dog,
and lots of toys. What else could you ask for.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Working with the League to Save Lake Tahoe for their virtual fundraiser was my absolute favorite project last year because I strongly believe in their purpose. To build out their programming, we created numerous videos that captured the League’s priorities, vision, and history. With the pandemic, my team of creatives really had to think outside the box, and I’m so proud how it all turned out.

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you try to live by?

“Energy and persistence conquers all things.” -Benjamin Franklin. This has been my favorite mantra/quote since I was in high school. Yes, I know… weird kid.

Who is your role model?

I’m lucky that my mom is both my role model and the other KR of KR Squared. As a business partner, she’s taught me the importance of developing brand identity and how to best collaborate each client according to their unique and specific needs.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

When I’ve shot commercials/videos with Tahoe kids, I am always so impressed. Across the board, these children are well-adjusted and happy. I asked one of the moms why and she said, “Look around. They get to grow up in the great outdoor full of awesome activities.” So, I thought about it and weighed Los Angeles versus Tahoe. But honestly, I have to admit it was an easy
decision. After all, it’s so fun to see Tahoe through my son’s eyes. From kayaking to climbing rocks, he’s one happy kid.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

KR Squared was founded in Tahoe eight years ago; however, I moved permanently to the South Shore last year, and I’m still getting my volunteer footing. But I must say, I am so impressed with the Boys and Girls Club. What Jude Wood and her team has accomplished is extraordinary. Oh, and I also have to give a huge shoutout to the League to Save Lake Tahoe. When they
call, we are always excited to help.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Hiking in Tahoe is second to none. On the weekends there is nothing like striking out on the trails with my little boy and dog. It’s a time to recharge, refresh, and simply appreciate the absolute beauty that Tahoe provides. Basically, I’m an outdoors fanatic.

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

This is an easy one… Clyde’s Coffee is hands down my favorite spot. I can walk right over from our office, the coffee is excellent, and I always run into friends and neighbors. At the office we joke
that it’s like Cheers. You know, “Where everybody knows your name!”
