As the group sales manager at Riva Grill on the Lake, Kimberly Bjerke’s job requires outreach and building relationships within the community. Those relationships are one of the best perks of the job.

“It’s pretty special when our community is as proud of Riva Grill as we are working here,” Kimberly said.

Kimberly graduated from the Chamber’s Leadership Lake Tahoe program in 2014 and served on its Task Force in later years. Being involved in the leadership program, participating in the South Tahoe Restaurant Association, and doing community outreach for Riva Grill has helped connect Kimberly to the South Shore community in multiple ways.

Congratulations to Kimberly Bjerke, the latest honoree of our 40 under 40 series!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

As the group sales manager, I am responsible for all the sales and events at Riva Grill on the Lake. We are a small department, so we wear a few different hats—including the event operations, helping managers on the floor during busy holidays, and community outreach.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

It has been pretty amazing to be a part of our growth year after year. In that growth, I’m proud to have built and continue lasting relationships within the community that allow for more local business and support. It’s pretty special when our community is as proud of Riva Grill as we are working here.

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you try to live by?

Every phase of life is different. I used to live by the “work hard play hard” method. With a new family, I’m trying to live the optimal work-life balance. You can only be your best self when you are balanced and I value a successful career and my beautiful family and friends.

What was your first job?

My first job was in the kitchen and restaurant at a nursing home. I would prepare all the meals that would go to the rooms and then at dinner time we would serve some of the elderly in the restaurant. Nothing prepares you more for the restaurant business than serving a bunch of wonderfully witty Alzheimer’s patients 😉

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

Riva Grill was my first job in Tahoe and it is quite the impressive operation. After a few years of working hard and playing harder, I knew Riva was where I wanted to start my career path. With that, I started becoming more involved in the community which has given me such a great sense of home. I love where I live and love what I do! Can’t beat that.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

I participated in the Leadership Lake Tahoe program a few years back. I really enjoyed the program and joined the task force for the following class. I now participate in the South Tahoe Restaurant Association.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Other than hanging with my precious baby of 10 months, I look forward to a great day of golf.

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

When I can get out, you can find me at Edgewood, Nevada Beach or in my backyard enjoying some wine and cheese.
