“Anything worth doing is worth doing well.”

Kyle McSparron has built his successful electrical business, Blue Sky Electrical Solutions, Inc, from the ground up while creating local jobs and apprentice opportunities. When Kyle is not working or enjoying his favorite South Tahoe spots, he volunteers his time with the local non-profits, Young Life and Bread & Broth.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Kyle McSparron!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

In the past four years, my responsibilities have shifted greatly. Currently, my responsibilities include keeping my team of 8 safe, lining up the work and managing cash flow of the business. In the past year, I have taken on two apprentices. One of my recent accomplishments was that Blue Sky was able to keep everyone on the payroll and did not lay anyone off during the recent shutdown. Due to the quality of work and focus on customer service, I have consistently maintained five-star ratings on Google, Yelp and Facebook.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Due to having a hard-working, dedicated and professional team, I was privileged to have been nominated for a Blue Ribbon Award this year, under the Entrepreneur of the Year category. I was given an honorable mention at the event.

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you live by?

Anything worth doing, is worth doing well. Take ownership and take out the trash, meaning no job is beneath me and I will do whatever it takes to get the job done.

Who is your role model?

Both my father and my father-in-law are influential people in my life. They constantly model what it is to be a servant leader, the importance of family, strong work ethic and taking responsibility.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

I am originally from New Jersey and was burnt out with my career as an electrician at the time. I took a “sabbatical” summer off, which turned into a winter, which then led me to Tahoe to become a snowboard instructor at Heavenly. I spent winters on the hill and summers traveling around the county and in New Zealand. After my third winter, seeing that I kept coming back to this beautiful location, I decided to stay and make South Lake my permanent home. I moved on from being a snowboard instructor after 7 seasons to full-time building Blue Sky Electrical Solutions, Inc.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

I spend my time volunteering with an organization called Young Life and also Bread and Broth. Young Life’s focus is on outreach to adolescents of every ability and all economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds. We come alongside teenagers and provide them life-changing and skill-building experiences, whether that is through taking them on the hill, lake, to a YL camp, etc. I am involved this year in the Leadership Lake Tahoe program that has given me the opportunity to connect with a variety of talented leaders in our community.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

When I am not working, I enjoy taking turns on pow days, mountain biking with my wife, hanging out with friends and family at the beaches and paddle boarding. I love to talk about new business ideas and reading books on leadership and businesses in my spare time.

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

Apart from anywhere outside, some of my favorite locations are South Lake Brewing Company, Revive, Sprouts and Verde!
