“I love our community and helping keep the lifecycle of our used items going. Instilling the importance of recycling in our littlest members is so fulfilling. “

Lizzy owns and operates Tahoe Kids, which used to be Tot-To-Tot, and for the past year has been striving to reimagine the space as somewhere that mothers can find affordable, gently used gear and goods for their little ones.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Lizzy Kirkpatrick!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

I own and operate a children’s retail store selling new & gently used goods in the heart of South Lake- open 7 days a week! I have a fabulous little team of employee/friends at Tahoe Kids and seeing my vision for the store take flight has been so rewarding. I love our community and helping keep the lifecycle of our used items going. Instilling the importance of recycling in our littlest members is so fulfilling. Helping change the stigma around secondhand shopping and gift-giving and soaking in the reactions of locals and tourists regarding my store feels really good!

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Put simply, my biggest accomplishment overall this year has been finding the silver-linings during the pandemic and fighting hard to keep my dreams alive. Choosing one specific favorite time was receiving the license to do business in Nevada for our second location, Carson Valley Kids. Taking in, at that moment, all the fear, doubt and paperwork I had to overcome to get there was pretty heavy but good!

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you try to live by?

Go with the flow & trust your intuition.

Who is your role model?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg and truly all the moms out there doing their best and pushing through!

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

Because there’s magic in the air (and water!)

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

As a business owner, I don’t get out much, but I am very lucky to be a part of and get to know the general community of parents and families who come to shop at Tahoe Kids. There’s so much love pouring into the kids were raising and it is great to see it first-hand!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Just be with my kids. They are young and growing so fast that I just try to enjoy it as best I can. I enjoy it most outside with good friends!

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

Well, it has changed so much over the years but top of mind are Roundhill Pines Beach, the arcade at Harrah’s, Fallen Leaf Lake, Paradise Park, Baldwin Beach, Bijou Park and anywhere that has food to be served outside in the sunshine!
