“The Getaway Team is a charismatic and fun bunch, to be able to share that with the Tahoe community is exciting.”

As the Vice President of Operations for Getaway Reno/Tahoe, Meghan Burk coordinates their vast array of projects that involve the collaboration between over 20 independent contractors. Meghan oversees the flow of all projects and works to ensure that her team members are continually inspired. As an avid outdoors adventurer and a lover of Lake Tahoe, Meghan spends her time outside of work collaborating on a new non-profit called “Clean Up The Lake”, which is a lake-wide underwater cleanup project.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Meghan Burk!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

I’m referred to as the “glue that holds everything together.” As a media company that works with 20+ independent contractors, we have a lot of moving parts and projects that are constantly in rotation. My main responsibility is the flow of these projects and that our team members are continually inspired.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Each year Getaway Reno/Tahoe wins various awards and accolades, but my favorite professional moment is always the Tahoe Chamber Business Expo. We all work remotely, so when our team comes together, it’s wonderful to experience everyone’s energy and interacting with the community. We all take pride in our roles. The Getaway Team is a charismatic and fun bunch, to be able to share that with the Tahoe community is exciting.

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you live by?

“Everything happens for a reason.”

Life is ever changing. It’s important to take a moment to reflect on why things change, why you need to adapt, and see the positive in that change. That’s what life is all about.

Who is your role model?

A role model is defined as, “a person looked to by others as an example to be imitated.” I don’t look to imitate anyone; I look to grow into my genuine self with the help of those who emulate positive characteristics that I hope to inherit. Everyone who is in my life is a role model to me in some way. By surrounding myself with people who are authentic, positive, who challenge me, support me, and who help me become my true self … is the best type of role model I could ever have.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

I lived in 5 different states before the age of ten, cross country and back again. Tahoe is the first community that I finally grew with, both in my career and passion for the outdoors. I have become an ambassador of Lake Tahoe and I’m so so so very proud of it. I’ve grown roots here and that truly makes me fulfilled.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

Currently, I’m collaborating with a new non-profit called “Clean Up The Lake.” This is a lake-wide underwater cleanup project. It will also coincide with a feature documentary film called “Make a Difference,” about plastic pollution globally, and will position Lake Tahoe as a featured location.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

When I’m not working, it’ll be hard to find me. I escape to the outdoors, travel as often as I can and am always trying new things. This a big and amazing world.

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds

You’ll find me sprinkled everywhere in South Shore. Some of my favorite locations being Audible’s Sports Bar, The Loft, Lake Tahoe AleWorX, Clyde’s Coffee, Roundhill Pines Beach and Khale Path.
