Working as the Community Outreach and Relations Coordinator is an incredibly rewarding career that allows me to work closely with our local schools and non-profits along with addressing our top three community-identified health needs: mental health, substance abuse and access to care. I’m proud that in this last year, we worked together with Suicide Prevention Network to form a suicide peer support group along with the community’s first Suicide Awareness Walk in honor of Emily Alessi.”

Natasha Schue, Community Outreach and Relations Coordinator at Barton Health and Tahoe Chamber board member, is the latest honoree of our 40 under 40. Natasha is a driven young professional who successfully juggles a career, civic engagement and mom duties. In addition, she is fostering the development of future leaders through her involvement in the Leadership Lake Tahoe program. Congratulations Natasha!

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

I am currently serving as the Community Outreach and Relations Coordinator at Barton. Over the past two years, I’ve had the opportunity to expand my relationships in our community by working with many of our valued partners, patients and community members. It’s an incredibly rewarding career that allows me to work closely with our local schools and non-profits along with addressing our top three community identified health needs: mental health, substance abuse and access to care. I’m proud that in this last year, we worked together with Suicide Prevention Network to form a suicide peer support group along with the community’s first Suicide Awareness Walk in honor of Emily Alessi. Having lost a brother to suicide, this topic is very important to me.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

There have been so many rewarding moments this past year. Bringing awareness and reducing stigma around mental health and suicide definitely tops the list. Also, a fun bragging right is that Barton was awarded the “Best Booth Experience” at the Tahoe Chamber 2017 Business EXPO!

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you try to live by?

I’m constantly reminding myself to practice work-life balance. Being a wife and mom with two young boys, it’s a challenge but one that I think is really important.

What was your first job?

Technically, I earned my first paycheck babysitting, but my first “corporate” job was at the Gap. I really enjoyed interacting with customers and feel like that has helped play a role in how I approach customer service needs today.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

I’m part of the small minority that didn’t move here for a ski season. My husband, who was born and raised here, brought me to Tahoe and I’ve been really impressed by how close-knit this small-town community is. Finding a career can be a challenge but I feel fortunate in the path that Tahoe has led me down.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

I currently sit on two boards: Tahoe Chamber and Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe. Also through the Chamber, I co-chair the task force for the Leadership Lake Tahoe program. The Soroptimist group serves women and children in our community and is a great network of passionate women. Through my role at Barton, I sit on several community groups including the Community Behavioral Health Cooperative, Drug Free Coalition, Community Health Advisory Committee and the Lake Tahoe Collaborative.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

I really love our summers here and going to the beach with friends and family.

Where is your favorite South Shore stomping ground?

We love Lake Tahoe AleworX pizza for sitting outside and listening to live music (the boys love running around and playing corn hole too!). Malena Boutique is really cute for gifts and fun fashion. And last, The Coachman Hotel is a great place to get a good cup of joe or glass of wine.
