“I have had the opportunity to pursue not only a career but follow my passion of helping people.”

Nicholas Abelow CFP® is an award-winning Financial Advisor at Abelow Pratt & Associates. Born and raised in Tahoe, and now raising a family of his own, Nicholas now gives back to the community he loves by volunteering on the board of the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe, the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals, and being a mentor at South Tahoe High School.

Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Nicholas Abelow, CFP

Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?

Starting in Financial Services in 2004, fresh from college. I have had the opportunity to pursue not only a career but follow my passion of helping people. I really enjoy building relationships with my clients and having the opportunity to put the puzzle of life together. Everybody is making a slightly different picture and I get to experience these colorful images with my clients. I have so much respect for the knowledge and wisdom that is nourished to build and save money. I know that today’s capital stock will lay the foundations upon which tomorrow’s prosperity is built. Since the future is so dependent on this capital I know it is as much a burden as it is a privilege to have the role I do.

What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?

Being nominated and winning Tahoe’s Best Financial Advisor from the Tahoe Daily Tribune in 2019. (Also, being recognized for the contributions I make to our community to receive this award!)

Do you have a professional/life mantra that you live by?

“Live the Life you Love, Love the Life you Live.” I feel very fortunate to have come from where I came and to live where I am.  I think it is harder than ever to really know how to follow your passions and live your dreams. I have a loving wife and child, I get to live in my hometown, and challenge myself in my work. How fortunate am I? I have to take a step back sometimes and just say “Thank You!” We do not get to pick the color of our skin, household we are born into, or even the country or continent that we are born onto. One of the reasons I enjoy volunteering and giving back is because I feel so fortunate for everything I have and I know at the end of the day we are all in this together.

Who is your role model?

Of course – My Dad. He is somebody that works hard because he is passionate about something and not because he needs to.

Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?

Tahoe chose me. I was fortunate to be a Barton Baby and STHS graduate. I never wanted to leave. I continued to search for an opportunity to move back. In 2012 I had the opportunity to come home and in 2015 I had my own Barton Baby. We live in the mountains surrounded by beauty and an abundance of recreation.

Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?

Yes, I am the past-president of the Rotary Club of South Lake Tahoe and current board member. I served on the board of the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals for a few years. Last year I also had the opportunity to be a Mentor for a STHS senior doing his senior project on finance.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?

Being outside of course. We have so much to look forward to. Skiing, mt. biking, golf, hiking or taking it easy on the beach. I also love reading and cooking!

Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds?

Kiva Beach and Kirkwood.
