Nomination Process: How It Works
The Blue Ribbon Awards were created in 2007 to honor excellence in business on the South Shore. The awards program recognized businesses, organizations, and individuals for achievements, community contributions, and milestones. It was one of the largest business awards programs on the South Shore, bringing together over 300 local business leaders, entrepreneurs, organizations, community members, and government officials.
The nomination process starts with the community! The Tahoe Chamber invites all South Shore residents to nominate Chamber Members in various categories. To participate, simply visit the Tahoe Chamber website, browse the list of members and categories, and complete a brief questionnaire to submit their nominations. If their nominee isn’t listed, they can share a link for them to join as a Chamber Member, making them eligible for the following year’s awards. From nomination to recognition, the community plays a vital role in celebrating local leaders and businesses!
COMMUNITY ENRICHMENT AWARD
A business, non-profit, or agency that has worked to improve the South Shore community.
- Has made significant contributions to sustain and strengthen the local community
- Promotes cultural diversity and programs that foster inclusivity
- Responds to needs of the community through advocacy or long-term strategies
- Demonstrates commitment to community through investment of resources, community dialogue, and partnerships.
CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD – BUSINESS
An individual who is appreciated by the community for going above and beyond to offer the highest quality customer service.
- Treats each customer, guest and peer with respect
- Seeks opportunities to exceed expectations
- Handles crisis and challenges with integrity
INNOVATION AWARD
An innovative entrepreneur/ non-profit / business that has affected significant change in the community through a unique idea or the improvement upon one.
- The innovator creatively filled a need in our community

- The innovation has proven to be beneficial to the community
EXCELLENCE IN BUSINESS AWARD
A business that exemplifies excellence in managing their enterprise. Has made substantial contributions to the overall good of business, and the economic well-being of the community. (Business must be established and in operation for at least three (3) years)

CUSTOMER SERVICE AWARD – PUBLIC AGENCY
An individual who goes above and beyond to provide the community with support, to effect change and to benefit the overall quality of life in South Tahoe.

- Benefits the community within and outside of their workplace
- Is recognized as a valued member of the community
SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AWARD
A business or organization that serves visitors while benefiting the community through environmental stewardship, education about sustainability, and meaningful local practices.
- Provides a unique consumer experience that encourages new visitors and generates repeat visitors.
- Recognizes responsible and sustainable tourism practices and initiatives.
- Supports the South Shore community.
- Educates visitors about sustainability, environment and local practices.

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
An individual dedicated to making a positive impact on the agency they serve and on the community at large.
- Volunteers their time to improving the community through various contributions and community service
- Considered to be mentor to others based upon their volunteer efforts
- Demonstrates qualities of compassion, commitment to service, creativity, cooperation, and/or leadership.
