When Maggie Burns founded Flow & Glow Med Spa, her goal was about much more than aesthetics. As an experienced nurse
Today, Flow & Glow Med Spa has become one of South Lake Tahoe’s premier destinations for medical aesthetics, IV hydration therapy, Botox, laser treatments, and personalized skincare, serving both local residents and visitors seeking professional wellness and aesthetic services.
Before opening Flow & Glow Med Spa, Maggie spent years working in ER then, urgent care and family medicine. While she loved caring for patients, she often found herself wishing healthcare placed greater emphasis on prevention rather than simply treating illness.
“I kept thinking there has to be a better way,” Maggie explains. “I wanted to focus more on preventative medicine instead of always prescribing medications to ‘fix’ a problem.”
That passion inspired her to bring IV hydration therapy to Lake Tahoe, a service that was still relatively new to the region when she first developed the concept in 2022.
Finding the right location took time, but Maggie knew she wanted to establish a welcoming medical spa rather than operate solely as a mobile service. Once Flow & Glow opened its doors, the business quickly began evolving beyond IV hydration into a full-service medical aesthetics practice.
What began with IV hydration has grown into a comprehensive menu of services designed to support both wellness and confidence.
“I knew I wanted to offer IV therapy and injectables,” Maggie says. “What I didn’t expect was how much I’d love learning about lasers, advanced skincare, and all of the technology available today.”
Her commitment to continuing education has allowed Flow & Glow to continually expand its offerings while staying at the forefront of aesthetic medicine.
One of Flow & Glow’s newest additions is advanced PicoLaser technology, allowing the practice to safely treat all skin types while expanding treatment options for pigmentation concerns, skin rejuvenation, tattoo removal, and more.
The practice is also expanding its skincare services with the addition of an esthetician specializing in corrective, results-driven treatments. Rather than focusing solely on relaxation, clients receive customized skincare plans designed to address concerns such as acne, melasma, acne scarring, dry skin, and overall skin health.
Every recommendation begins with a personalized consultation and treatment plan tailored to each individual’s goals.
Flow & Glow’s growth has been nothing short of remarkable.
“In the beginning, I might have had one client every week or two,” Maggie recalls. “Now every year we’ve doubled or tripled our business. This year we’re expecting even more growth.”
Just two years after opening, the business has already outgrown its original location, with plans for future expansion to better serve the growing demand for medical spa services in South Lake Tahoe.
For Maggie, one of the greatest rewards of entrepreneurship is the freedom to continually improve the client experience.
“I love being able to make the decisions. If I discover something new that I truly believe will benefit my clients, I can bring it into the practice.”
Flow & Glow believes wellness extends beyond the treatment room.
Throughout the year, Maggie partners with other local businesses for community wellness events, educational experiences, and collaborative promotions that introduce clients to complementary services throughout the South Shore.
As a member of the Tahoe Chamber, Maggie says those relationships have played an important role in her business’s success.
“The networking has been huge,” she says. “Being part of the Chamber helped businesses and the community know we’re here. It’s created opportunities to collaborate and build relationships throughout Tahoe.”
Originally arriving in Lake Tahoe as a traveling nurse before returning for graduate school, Maggie quickly discovered the community she wanted to call home. After meeting her husband, Nick, her future became clear.
“I’m not leaving, South Lake Tahoe is home” she says with a smile.
