The Tahoe Chamber congratulates the South Tahoe Public Utility District on its 70th anniversary.
Certification by the California Secretary of State of the local votes to establish the District took place on September 28, 1950. Current STPUD leadership will mark the 70th anniversary today, September 30, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. The public can join in the occasion from a computer, tablet or smart phone at https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/348393925 or dial in by phone at 1-866-899-4679 with the access code 348-393-925.
Stories will be shared on how the community transitioned from pumping sewage into the Lake to becoming the first wastewater treatment plant in the world to treat sewage to a tertiary (3-stage) level. Over the years, the District has continued to evolve its treatment technology to maintain the standards of water quality protection required at Lake Tahoe and, on the water supply side, acquired, upgraded, and integrated a number of smaller systems into the STPUD we know today. Congratulations to the management, board of directors and employees of the South Tahoe Public Utility District on this significant milestone of community service.
