Curious about the new blue vans you’ve seen cruising in the South Shore? That’s Chariot—a new microtransit service that’s a mix between modern ride services like Uber and public transportation systems like buses.

With support from the League to Save Lake Tahoe, Chariot began operating in Tahoe earlier this July for a 90-day pilot program focused on creating a self-sustainable mass-transit system that relieves congestion and can provide access and a solution to better transportation to South Lake Tahoe.
They were welcomed to the community just yesterday with a ribbon cutting celebration hosted by the Tahoe Chamber and the League. You can learn more about the service in this week’s member spotlight Q&A!

What type of business do you represent?

At Chariot, we’re focused on creating the world’s first self-sustainable, mass-transit system that relieves congestion while offering a comfortable, personalized commuting and transportation experience. The mission is to provide access and a solution to better transportation to South Lake Tahoe.

Tell us more about what products and services your business offers. Is there anything people may not be aware you offer?

Chariot is a form of microtransit—a modern mix between ride services like Uber and public buses. The League partnered with Chariot in order to address the ongoing traffic problem between Tahoe’s most popular spots. By bringing Chariot to Tahoe, the League—which also helped bring Lime to South Shore in 2017—sees the area as a testing ground for possible transportation solutions.

Tell us about any current/upcoming events, promotions, or unique deals happening at your organization.

The pilot program will last 90 days. Chariot will collect ride and GPS data to share with the League, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) and the Tahoe Transportation District (TTD). To ride Chariot, users must download the app on their phone, book a seat, and show the driver their ticket upon boarding. Each ride is $3.
