More Alive Now is a unique water kefir brand that began in Susan Frailey’s kitchen in 2002 after her young son was diagnosed with autism. Searching beyond conventional and alternative approaches, Susan reached out to a kefir expert to learn more about it’s nutritional value and success. After receiving more information and several live cultures, kefir d’acqua, or water kefir, became a staple in their home and her future business.

What type of business do you represent and how long have you been in business?
More Alive Now manufactures kefir d’acqua– water kefir — a dairy free sparkling probiotic kefir drink. Water kefir has been historically known for its health benefits by many cultures around the world. Our small batch policy brings you authentic water kefir fermented in traditional methods from water, organic sugar and live cultures. It is light, pleasant, and slightly carbonated. Water kefir production introduces a living mother culture (a symbiotic colony of friendly bacteria and yeasts) into the sugar water, that metabolize the sugar and evolve the water into an effervescent and delicious health infusion. Dairy free, gluten free, caffeine free, nonalcoholic.
More Alive Now began production of kefir d’acqua in June 2018.
Tell us more about what products and services your business offers. Is there anything people might not be aware you offer?
We offer 5 gallon kegs and are available for promotional tastings at your establishment, and can help train your staff about our new product. We offer simple solutions for establishments without taps.
Our flavors are: Berry Fusion, Lemon Crush, Mango Sunrise, and Grapelicious.

We are currently setting up our production site for bottling. Look for our four signature flavors of More Alive Now kefir d’acqua in 16 oz bottles, available late Spring/early Summer.

Joining the Chamber connects me right into the business hub of South Shore, and has other business and learning opportunities to help successfully grow my company and stay tuned in to my community.

The fermented beverage industry has grown significantly over the years, but there are few kefir drinks on the market. Kefir d’acqua offers a new and unique taste with the health benefits of kefir, in a refreshing water-based product.
Most remarks from first-time customers are about the exquisite taste and the gut-friendly “feel good” experience. People looking for kombucha alternatives are delighted to find a fermented taste they enjoy. My biggest commendation is that children love it. Kefir d’acqua is in a category all of its own. One taste and you’ll know why. You can try More Alive Now kefir d’acqua locally on tap at Aleworx, El Frescana, and OMNI TAHOE yoga studio.
Making probiotic foods began in my home in 2007, answering a personal health quest to boost immunity and optimize the gut-brain connection. In 2010, I published the book “MORE ALIVE NOW: Simple Nutrition to Change Your Life”, and water kefir is one of the probiotic food recipes I share in my book.
Water kefir was a hit around the neighborhood and production evolved and perfected over time. In 2018, I was encouraged by family and friends to bring this delicious health drink forward to my community, and offer a new fermented beverage to the industry.
