Organization Overview:

At the heart of the arts scene in the South Shore area is the Tahoe Art League. Founded in 1964, the league is one of Tahoe’s oldest non-profits.

Through donations and membership fees, the Tahoe Art League supports and enhances the local arts community in numerous ways, whether it be providing scholarships for local artists or hosting free monthly art demonstrations.

Learn more about the Tahoe Art League in this week’s Tahoe Chamber member spotlight Q&A with Kelly Smith Cassidy, President of Tahoe Art League.

Tell us more about what products and services your business offers. Is there anything people may not be aware you offer?

The Tahoe Art League (TAL) has been a non-profit since 1964. As far as we know, we are the oldest non-profit in South Lake Tahoe! We support the visual arts in our community through demos, lectures, scholarships, studio tours, and fundraising for the arts in our community.

Tell us about any current/upcoming events, promotions, or unique deals happening at your organization.

With generation donations, membership fees and fundraising, the Tahoe Art League is able to give back to the community in many ways.

  1. We offer free monthly general art lecture or demo meetings with visiting artists.
  2. TAL has an artist’s Studio Tour every year. This year we are holding the 12th Annual Studio Tour. It takes place the last weekend in July (July 27-29) and the first weekend in August (August 3-5) from 10-5 p.m. every day. We have 29 artists amongst 13 studios this year. Many artists will offer demos during the two weekends.
  3. We are now offering new benefits to our members this year. We are offering a free marketing workshop in June for all our members and $50 for non-members. We also have mixers, art field trips and of course, camaraderie amongst fellow artists.
  4. We love to do things in the community; both directly in the arts community and civically as a group in other areas. Recently we competed as a team at the Tahoe Chamber’s Connect for Kids mixer where TAL members donated a kids bike and decorated it (and we won!). We also worked as a team to help clean up the Visitor’s Center, Senior Center, Art Center and South Lake Tahoe Museum area during Clean Tahoe’s Spring Cleaning Day.
  5. Every year, we give out scholarships to deserving art students from South Lake Tahoe High School and Lake Tahoe Community College.

We are continually adding programs to our roster. Slated for 2019 is the first South Lake Tahoe Plein Air Festival, so stay tuned!

Why did you choose to join the Tahoe Chamber?

Oh my goodness, why not? There is so much that the Chamber offers. They have been so supportive of our community and outspoken agents for all of Lake Tahoe businesses and non-profits in the community. Also, they have won several awards in their industry for excellence which we have definitely paid attention to!

Is there anything else you would like to share with us to be featured in the Member Spotlight?

Membership into the Art League supports the local arts community so that we can continue to do good works in the art community. We hope to add more children’s art programs in the future, but we need your support!
