Congratulations to this week’s 40 under 40 honoree, Kelly Meyer!
Can you tell us a little about your responsibilities and accomplishments in your current position?
Professionally, I have been a Hair Stylist and Makeup Artist for 12 years. I work at Sessions Salon and have off and on for 9 years. I absolutely love every aspect of my job. Meeting new people of all types and making them feel good about themselves, while expressing my creative side is a win on all sides. Biggest accomplishment is being apart of a Salon that has flourished in the industry and in this town for over 30 years. Continuing my education and individual growth in the business while remembering to enjoy what I do with a team beside me that I absolutely love! With three kids at home, work is my escape.
Volunteering, I am the current President Elect and incoming President for the Lake Tahoe Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra. I have been a member for 8 years. This has become my second family. The amount of time given by each of these members, all for the kids in our community to have a better life is incredible. We have accomplished many things that I’m proud of but one that sticks with me is funding a library in the memory of Kimber Palma at Bijou Elementary. She was killed along with her grandma in a car accident but was a Bijou Student. With the help of Bijou Librarian, Mrs. James, “Kimber’s Library” has books Kimber checked out along with many more of her interest and passions.
What has been your favorite professional moment in the last year?
Deciding to advance my business and growth in the industry. Becoming apart of the training process for young new stylists and teens interested in becoming stylists.
Do you have a professional/life mantra that you live by?
As silly as it sounds at my age, soccer gave me a voice and an identity from a young age. Soccer was my entire life all the way up to college and I still play! It forced me to be strong and find a balance between being independent and a good team player. I live life like I did playing soccer, work the hardest you can as an individual, support the people on your team and celebrate all that hard work in the end or learn from the loss. Oh and don’t get a yellow card!
Who is your role model?
My parents. My dad has had major success in his career and well deserved! He has always taught my siblings and I that if we work hard and stay educated we will find happiness in success. My mom has always been our rock. She is the backbone of our family and has taught me how to be with my own kids. They are both my best friend and I admire all of their accomplishments but most of all their endless support throughout my journey.
Why choose Tahoe to make your home and career?
I was born and raised here. Tahoe is unlike anywhere else. After high school, everyone is in such a rush to move as I was. But once I was pregnant with my son, I realized I wanted my kids to have everything I did growing up! I love having the seasons and all the sports/activities that come with each season.
Are you active in any volunteer roles or community groups?
I’m the incoming President for Kiwanis Club of Tahoe Sierra, Bijou Elementary PTA President, and AYSO Board member as Coach Administrator. I coach Soccer and Little League Baseball, assisted in starting the first Woman’s Indoor Soccer League and I was the past Jr. Giants Commissioner for South Lake.
What is your favorite thing to do outside of work?
Play soccer, going to listen to any type of live music, being outside with my kids and my family!
Where are your favorite South Shore stomping grounds
Pope Beach, Jazz (Music) on the Lake, Freshies, Isabellas, Sierra-At-Tahoe, Margaritas, McDuffs, anywhere outside when the sun is out, or at home with all the windows open during summer thunderstorms or winter snow.
