NV Energy May Shut Off Power for Safety
NV Energy is implementing a number of measures in response to these changes to help protect our customers and environment from wildfires and extreme weather, including Public Safety Outage Management (PSOM).
During a PSOM event, NV Energy will shut off power in extreme fire-risk areas, including Lake Tahoe, when certain environmental conditions are met. This helps prevent power lines and other equipment from causing a wildfire. NV Energy is already working closely with local emergency agencies to implement PSOM, and this will be done only as a last resort. […]
